Attorney Sheryl Berkowitz has been involved in assisting women with their claims in the Breast Implant Litigation for almost a decade. She has successfully represented many women throughout the United States, enabling many women to attain settlements for very serious diseases they have developed after their initial breast implantation such as Lupus, Scleroderma and General Connective Tissue Disease.
Ms. Berkowitz grew up in Brooklyn, New York. She received her B.A. from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. 1980, and her J.D. from The Northeastern University School of Law in Boston in 1986. She is a Member of the Florida and Massachusetts Bar, and also licensed to practice before the United States District Court for the South District of Florida, and the United States Supreme Court.
Prior to law school, Ms. Berkowitz founded Energy Resource Associates in Washington, D.C., which provided paralegal consultant services for companies developing alternative energy projects. During law school, she clerked for the Honorable Eugene P. Spellman, Podhurst, Orseck, Parks in Miami and Lebeouf, Lamb, Leiby & MacRae in Boston. After law school, she worked as a Litigation Associate for several large national law firms, including McDermott, Will & Emery; and Morgan, Lewis & Bockius. After a number of years in the private sector, she went back to the public sector and served as the Associate Director of the Legal Services of Greater Miami for five years, providing free civil legal services to the indigent population of Miami-Dade County. During her legal career, Ms. Berkowitz also took several work sabbaticals overseas providing legal consultant services in Israel, relating to non-profit organizations and in South America, relating to the provision of free civil legal services to the poor and Alternative Dispute Resolution for the Courts. She also has been certified as a civil mediator in the State of Florida.
Ms. Berkowitz is a member of numerous Bar Associations, and Civic Associations. She has two young children, aged 9 and 11. Among other things, she serves on the School Advisory Board of her children’s school and on the Advisory Board of the WPBT Public Television.
