Sheryl E. Berkowitz – Dedicated Florida Mass Tort AttorneyAttorney Sheryl Berkowitz grew up in Brooklyn, New York. She received her B.A. from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. in 1980 and her J.D. from the Northeastern University School of Law in Boston in 1986. Before beginning law school, Ms. Berkowitz founded Energy Resource Associates in Washington, D.C. which focused on providing legislative and administrative research for alternative energy projects around the country. She is a member of the Florida Bar, and is also licensed to practice before a number of federal courts including the United States Supreme Court.

Prior to co-founding Fenstersheib and Berkowitz, Ms. Berkowitz was a Litigation Associate for several large national law firms, including McDermott; Will & Emery; and Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, with a later emphasis in environmental law. After a number of years in the private sector, she returned to the public sector and served five years as the Associate Director for Legal Services of Greater Miami, providing free civil legal services to the indigent community in Miami-Dade County. During her legal career, Ms. Berkowitz also took several work sabbaticals overseas in order to provide legal consultant services in Israel and in South America relating to the provision of free legal services to the needy and alternative dispute resolution for the courts. She has served as a certified civil mediator in the State of Florida and was appointed as a Special Master for the City of Miami Beach.

For more than two decades, Ms. Berkowitz has been involved in representing individuals in pharmaceutical Mass Tort / Class Action claims, with an emphasis on woman’s health litigation. She has successfully represented many women in the long ongoing Dow Corning Breast Implant Litigation attaining settlements for the most serious of injuries and diseases such as: Lupus, Scleroderma and General Connective Tissue Disease, all developing after initial breast implantation. She has also helped many women in the Transvaginal Mesh Litigation. She is currently also working on cases involving Ovarian Cancer associated with the use of Johnson & Johnson Baby Powder (Talc) and Shower To Shower, Taxotere, and Zofran.

Ms. Berkowitz is currently a member of numerous bar, civic, community, and women’s associations. Among other things, she serves on several boards including the National Trial Lawyers Association, Woman’s Rights Division Steering Committee and as an Internal Ambassador for the Jewish Women’s Renaissance Project, where she volunteers to lead yearly groups of women to Israel. Ms. Berkowitz is very passionate in representing women and attaining justice for their serious injuries related to pharmaceuticals and prosthetic devices.
